Esophageal Atresia and Tracheoesophageal Fistula
The esophagus connects the throat to the stomach through a tube while the trachea connects the throat to the windpipe and lungs. Though these two tubes are not connected to each other, the problem caused by them is common which is the irregular supply of liquid to the stomach. Incomplete or distorted formation of TE and EA tubes affects the digestion of milk or other fluids as these don't pass normally.
Risks associated with Esophageal Atresia and Tracheoesophageal Fistula
- Digestive tract problems like diaphragmatic hernia, duodenal atresia
- Heart problems like patent ductus arteriosus
- Kidney and urinary tract problems
- Muscular or skeletal problems
EA/TEF diagnosis and treatment in India
EA/TEF diagnosis in India starts with the X-ray of the child's chest and belly by putting a small tube into the child's mouth or nose. The tube is directed into the esophagus and monitored through the X-ray.
Dr Shweta K Sharma properly analysis the diagnosis reports and suggests the treatment. If the child has both the problems, surgery is the only solution where the connection between the esophagus and trachea is closed.
